My Mom and my Nonie (my Grandmother on my Dad's side) were wonderful cooks, so I learned from the best. Mom was full-blooded Italian, and learned how to cook from her Dad; she then passed the recipes down to me. Unfortunately, they were not on paper; rather, they are more a sense of taste and smell and feel and sight. A splash of this, a handful of that, a dash of the other....you get the idea. So I have tried to get approximate measurements written down so that once I'm gone, the recipes aren't lost.
Mom made the best Lasagna I have ever had anywhere. Mine is very, very close to hers in taste, but there is still that magic touch of hers that will never be there. But I keep trying!
Nonie was from the German side of the family, and was such a good cook! Her Roast Pork and Dressing on Sundays was good enough to make you cry. I have tried to duplicate her recipe, and mine is very close to hers, but don't think I will ever be able to match hers....she had that "touch" that cannot be duplicated.
Nonie also made a Glorified Rice dish that I still crave, and still try to make; mine is good, but .... I'll just keep trying.
I have been married for 25 years to the Wonderful Mr. Dizzy, my best friend, my love, and my life partner. He's the BEST! And, a very willing "guinea pig" for trying my recipes!
We also have two grandsons, Alex and Jon. They are pretty picky eaters, but are starting to come around and eat a few more things. Which is a good thing, since I can always use more guinea pigs!
Our house is also owned and operated by three manic kitty-kids - -
Carmichael
Squeak
and Lil Dude
Oh, they let us believe we are in charge, but they know the truth - - THEY are definitely the bosses. Brats. (But we love them all the same)
Anyway, that is a little bit about the cook. I hope you enjoy the recipes you find here as much as me and my family do!
